Ipanema Beach is also another iconic beach in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The bossa nova song Garota de Ipanema went around the world and carried with it the image and fame of this beautiful beach.

Posto 9

As the fame of this beach comes mainly from its lively nightlife, fueled by the Girl from Ipanema, Posto 9 (Lifeguard 9) is one of the most popular places, at Rua Vinícius de Morais (name of the singer and composer of this song).

Good Hotels and Restaurants

As well as Copacabana, Ipanema offers visitors a good and varied range of hotels and restaurants, from expensive hotels to some cheaper options. Local commerce is also quite varied and there are also world brands and gems stores.

The nightlife also has plenty of options, from bars to excellent restaurants among the best in the city.

The state of Rio de Janeiro has a coastline with 635 km in length. It extends from the south of the state of Espirito Santo to the north of the state São Paulo.

The North Coast

North of the city of Rio de Janeiro extends the North Coast (Região dos Lagos), which begins in Maricá and goes until São Francisco do Itabapoana (320 km from Rio de Janeiro). Most appreciated beaches: Cabo Frio and Búzios

Most known beaches are Ipanema, Copacabana, Leblon and Barra da Tijuca.

The South Coast

The South Coast (Costa Verde) goes from Mangaratiba to Paraty (248 km from Rio de Janeiro city). Most appreciated beaches are Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande.
