Discovering Jericoacoara

The carnaúbas (palm trees) hide the little town and the coconuts lean into the sea. And the jangadas, with their white sails raisen to the wind, show their splendid profile at the horizon and seem awaiting the departure. Also, everywhere, the dunes of Ceará's West Coast.

Since the world has discovered Jericoacoara, 17 years ago, the fishermen of this little town saw a lot of visitors from all of the world. Americans and Germans, mainly. The first guides that show the beach on a donkey, have abandoned them and now ride on buggies that cross the dunes and the sea-side. These change went on with the arrival of electricity, some years ago...

In spite of this, Jericoacoara stay the same and the 1.500 inhabitant of this district of Jijoca or Gijoca do the best they can to to deserve the best welcome to all visitors. Good cooking (fish, crustaceous and Nordeste's cuisine) and delicious drinks (caipirinha, batidas and many other) will prepare everyone to the forró (typical Nordeste's music) when the night comes.
