Copacabana, Rio de JaneiroBrazil's most famous Beach
No Brazilian Beach is more known all over the world than Copacabana. In the '50, it was cheerished as the Princess of the Atlantic. More than a simple beach, it is a kind of patrimony. It is so that the enchantment and the glamour of the Copacabana Palace Hotel has been immortalized as a Cultural Patrimony of Rio de Janeiro. Famous stars of American movies and song had been there.

Even with its popularization of late years, Copacabana keeps its charm and it is Rio's and Brazil's Post Card. The Sugar Loaf (Pão de Açúcar) at the Guanabara Bay, imponenent, is Brazil's most seen and symbolic picture. Plenty of good - some very good - hotels are there: Le Méridien, Marriott, Othon, Copacabana Palace, Sofitel (former Rio Palace) and many others.

Popular and famous are the two faces of Copacabana which is the true face of Brazil's melting pot.

Cariocas prefere walk early in the morning and in the evening alogside Copacabana's calçadão (big sidewalk), with its Portuguese stones.

Good bars and restaurants
As Rio's Post Card, Copacabana has also very good restaurants and crowded bars. From the Leme to the Posto 6, cariocas, other Brazilian and tourists from oall over the world meet in a coulorful and cheerful mixture.
Here and there, some people play samba for the habitués of the bars at the corners of Avenida Atlantica. Over there, on the sands of the beach, ambulant vendors sell from straw hats to bikinis at bargain prices, besides all kind of fruit juice...



Ipanema (RJ)Without all the fame of its decane Copacabana, Ipanema Beach, in the borough with the same name, in a very short time became as well known as its older sister Copacabana, and nowadays is the prefered beach of cariocas who are in and of tourists.
