> What To Do In Salvador
As one of Brazil's most
important cities, Salvador has plenty of interesting things to see and to
do. To begin with, below, a selection of some places to visit absolutely:
> Salvador major attractions
- The Pelourinho: Salvador Old Slave's Punishment Place and
Historic Center. This very well preserved architectural ensemble
- build from XVII-XIXth century - has been declared World Cultural
Patrimony by Unesco. Many cultural events as well as festivities
take place there actually
- The São Francisco de Assis Covent: late XVIth century, considered one of the most important baroque masterpieces. About
1 ton of gold was used to build saints and ither pieces of this church
- The Ordem Terceira de São Francisco Church: from the beginning of XVIIIth century (1703),
Brazil's only church with a stone façade
- The Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia Church: of the second
half of the XVIth century. The building was made in Portugal
and trasported to Brazil later
- The Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos Church: from the begining of the XVIIIth century, was build by slaves and free black people
- The São Bento Monastery: late XVIth Century
- The Nosso Senhor do Bonfim Church: mid XVIIIth century, this is one of Salvador most traditional churches

- Dique do Tororó: orixá's sculptures
- The Farol da Barra: Salvador's Lighthouse is one of the most
popular point of the city, specially during the Carnival

- The Santo Antonio da Barra Fort
- The Monte Serrat Fort
- The São Diogo Fort
Salvador By Night
Salvador is a very animated city, specially at night.
Shopping
Salvador is a high point to buy Brazilian Handycraft, such as pottery, laces,
typical musical instruments (berimbau). The Mercado Modelo at downtown Salvador
is a must for those interested in shopping these articles
