If you stay about a week at Ouro Preto, it s a good idea knowing surroundings historical and colonial cities. To do this, there a few interesting tours. See below for more details. The official circuit to do is called the Estrada Real de Minas Gerais (the Minas Gerais Royal Road)

> Mariana

The first capital of the Province of the Minas Gerais is situated only 8 km from Ouro Preto and to go there, just take a municipal bus (or a taxi).

Besides its old façades and church, near Mariana the the famous Mina da Passsagem, Brazil's most famous and older mine. It is open to the public visitation.

> Congonhas

This is also a must visit, because the visitor will admire Aleijadinho's Prophets in fornt of the Basilica de Bom Jesus de Matosinhos, declared World Cultural Patrimony by UNESCO

> Tiradentes

The charming small town of Tiradentes is situated 14 km to the east of São João del rei. So, to go there follow the same instructions as below.

> São João del Rei

The little and charming town of São João del Rei is worth the visit. It is situated about 150 km to the south-west of Ouro Preto, by the Estrada Real de Minas, an historical road. It is possible to go there by car from Ouro Preto
