Amazon Legends & Folklore![]()
Parintins IslandSituated on the right bank of the Amazon River, the town of Parintins, whose foundation was at the second half of the XVIIth century, steps out of its somnolence and of the torpid state of the surrounding jungle.
Tupinambarana's InfluenceThe descendants of the old tupinambarana (from the group of the Tupinamba), and the mestizos caboclos have made good use of the legacy of their cultures: the legends and the indian mythologies are based on traditions of old European colons and their descendants (the caboclos).
The Boi-bumbáMusic, adornment, rythms, everything carries the trait of the culture of the former inhabitants of this region. The theme of the boi-bumbá, one of the Amazonian strongest traditions, put this tradition in evidence in a spectacular way.
Caprichoso and GarantidoFrom the older local feast almost everything is kept intact, in spite of actual big spectacle based on multinational sponsors. To begin with, population implication is total to defend the ox of its preference, Caprichoso or Garantido, in the terminology of the toadas (songs) and the aspect of feast and ceremony that reigns.ECOTOURISMDiscover the Folklore Festival of Parintins.
