The Land of Caatinga and the Sertão
Almost 90% of
Ceará's surface is coverred by Nordeste
of Brazil typical vegetation, the
caatinga. For this
reason, Ceará is fully situated at the heart of the
Sertão.
Land of Freedom, Land of Lights
The
Ceará is the first State of Brazil to abolish the Black
Slavery, in 1884, four years before this ended officially in the
country (1888).
Under the Empire,
Ceará's politicians have taken part of all
uprising for the establishment of the Republic in Brazil
To the Conquest of the Sertão
At the beginning of colonial times, the colons push their herd of
cattle to the hinterland until reaching the uplands of the
Araripe
(
Chapada do Araripe), where important cities are founded (
Crato
and
Juazeiro).
Industries and Tourism
Actually, Ceará finds its vocation in industries that have been installed
there, recently, and in tourism, thanks to its very beautiful coast.
Ceará's seaside and its
green seas (
verdes mares)
is considered one of Brazil most beautiful ones.
