Without risk of beeing mistaken, we can say that it's Carnival
that marks the beginning of the serious activities in our country, in
many aspects. The
New Year's feasts marks,
as in other countries, the end of the working year. There is, then, a
buffer period which, awaiting carnival, in Brazil, corresponds to the
great school holidays. Besides, in the south hemisphere, it's summer.

A question of calender
As a mobile feast, for the year 2002 the carnival will be from February
8th to the 15th. In Rio, the three most important days are from February
th 10th to Feb. the 12th. The 13th - the
Quarta-feira de Cinzas - everything will be over. But, atSalvador, the feast
will go on untill the Sunday, February th 17th!!! (See the calender below
to the date).
Prepare yourself well in advance
As for Brazilians, it is necessary to prepare yourself well in advance.
If not, it will be very difficult for you to find a place in a flight,
in hotels and, in case you are going to Rio, il will be almost impossible
to find places to take part in
desfiles (parades)
