till the end of the first decade of the XIXth century. A trip through Brazilian

The gold rush and the baroque

Minas Gerais State.
The richness of its gold mines and precious gems (mainly diamond, at
Diamantina,

Humanity Cultural Patrimony by
UNESCO have strongly counted to the growing
of this art, because of local landlords orders for the construction of
their riches manor houses, churches and other public and private buildings.

Art and religiousness
The Brazilian baroque expresses strong and vigorously all of people's
religiosity. In our country, this artistic movement is closely tied to
the christian faith. That's why it is founded in so many churches and
explains its growing number of statuettes of saints that embellish the
famous
oratórios that were founded in olden times at one's houses.
